Description

With many historical references, this Handsome Estate stands apart from any others on the market in Horse-Country Virginia. It boasts incredible grandeur through every window. As you walk thru the front door you enter a glorious main hallway of what could possibly be the last remaining Flying Staircase. Off to the left through a Victorian styled sitting room is an inviting Conservatory with glowing flagstone flooring and a gorgeous fireplace from which to cast your favorite portrait as one stands today and further enchanted by seductive French doors which lead you to the SW yard that’s adored by English Boxwoods and magnificent Maples. With so much character, you will be historically blown away by the untouched condition of age old structures on this magnificent 95 acre bountiful countryside. To the right a federal dining room with a breathtaking mural of the countryside of this estate then further leads to a distinguished library with an original large stone cooking fireplace circa 1790s. The property also has 3 rental/guest houses. Please call for a private discreet viewing of this marvelous place in time manor and its rolling beautiful hills. Compliments of Blue Creek Realty.

John Mosby writes in his autobiography about visiting is wife at Mountain View (now Dondoric). When union soldiers came to search the house, he climbed out of the window and hid in the maple tree. The graceful curving staircase was brought to the home from another of the Horner estates and, family lore has it, is one of the few surviving such pre-colonial staircases in the country.
Three Tenant houses and a stocked fishing pond. Called "Mountain View" until the 1940s, the House and Farm went on to become the home of various notable figures in Virginia and National History.
